Project: Doodle A Day ~Magic and Liquid

Day 13: Magic

You may remember that I had an idea for Day 11 which was Electronic but I thought it was Electric! Well I was going to do this idea with the Electric Hair... instead it worked out for magic as that is always an insane assistant dressed in a skimpy suit prancing around with blonde hair usually but mines got Electric hair instead with her magicians items floating through it, how unfortunate it. I don't want to draw an Electronic item as who would want that through the post so I'll just miss that day out altogether.

 

Day 14: Liquid

I decided to take liquid to the next level and use a correction pen to draw with but it was a horrible process as I don't use liquid correction pens even though I insanely bought this once to use and it was too messy then. I prefer correction tape as its already dry. I had to keep it simple for the messy reason as I would have hated to have done something complicated and then blobbed all over and a pen does contain liquid after all.

 

I go back to work from tomorrow so this will probably be my last doodle this month but I hope to continue doodling again at some point as I have enjoyed it.

Project: Doodle A Day ~Food~

Day 12: Food

I still need to draw yesterdays theme but todays I have done. Today I was trying to decide what letter set to send someone. I pulled this letter set out, considered it but then couldn't remember if I bought it or was given it so I put it back, before I did though it reminded me that todays theme is food. I don't use the letter set envelopes as they are too small once I've finished writing a letter so I decided it would be nice to make a bigger envelope for when I do use this letter set. These macroons are fun to draw due to all their variety of colours but I have never had one to eat.

Project: Doodle A Day ~Secret~

Day 10: Secret

Shh... Keep it a secret! There is something about old keys and locked doors that make you curious about the secrets hidden behind them. This one after I finished colouring it, I thought I should have drawn the keyhole on the seal of the envelope with keys along the bottom. I will at another point draw that now that I have the idea but I need to think of something to go down the side of the golden key. Any ideas?

Project :Doodle A Day ~Under The Sea~

Day 9: Under The Sea

I've been patiently waiting for this theme to come as I just love sea themes even though I live no where near one. We mostly have countryside even though that will become none existant soon if property developers get their own way!

 

I had this idea on the first day when I wanted to do distance and someone looking through a telescope but then decided that it would be better for this one as it can be someone looking out of a port hole in to the sea. Well as you can see I got the port hole and so much more. I was meant to draw the anker in the place of the treasure chest but when I sat down this morning I kind of forgot that was my intentions and my then I'd colour half of the circle in. Well I was going to have an anker so that got added in which resulted in everything else. I wanted to keep in simple but nice as I have a clean sea and not one where junk is thrown in... saying that though I should have put a message in a bottle at least but didn't think at the time so never mind.

 

The same applies with all my doodles as before that if you really like any of them just send me an e-mail letting me know  with your address and I'll happily post it to you.

Project: Doodle A Day ~Close Up~

Day 8: Close Up

I had thought of a magnify glass with someone looking through it so that the eye looked huge but looking at the other drawings posted so far are of an eye. So I decided to draw the magnify glass but with a close up of the unfortunate look of the snail mail world. I hope that we in the U.K will never lose Saturday deliveries it would be so sad.

 

I really wish though that I was better with typography but all things come with time and I need to keep practising.

Project: Doodle A Day ~Pattern~

Day 7: Pattern

When I originally thought of this theme I could just think of filling a sheet of card with patterns but thankfully I didn't have the time this morning to sit and do it. By the time I did, I first decided to see what everyone else has posted and there was a doodle of a dandelion... it then made me stop and think that actually there are other things. It came to me straight away to do a cup and saucer and I'm so glad I did, I then included a pattern doily (which only today I realised I was spelling it wrong... what's wrong with doyle?) and a patterned table cloth. I do like how it turned out but my crayons weren't the greatest when colouring with them so its really streaky. I'm going to have to wait until this box is almost finished before I buy anymore though as I only got this box last week but if you can recommend anything I'd be really grateful.

 

I've ended up joining a few doodle swaps on swap-bot in order to use my doodles created so far. I'm quite excited about it all already!

Project: Doodle A Day ~Strong~

Day 7: Strong

 

I almost skipped this one as I didn't know what to do for it but then I remembered Mr Strong from all my mornings episodes whilst watching it with my niece. The only thing is that Mr Strong is a different shape to this one but I wanted to do the one on the book as you guessed it he's straight forward to draw and it didn't take me long at all to draw. I decorated an envelope this time also because I have a couple of Mr Men letter sets so it will come in really handy.

Day 5: Bloom

I started off making a postcard with this one. Three little pots in the process of blooming (seed, roots/stem and a plant) but it felt flat and a bit unloved so I decided to do a bloom with flowers as Spring is supposed to be in the air! I did think of bloomers, bloomin' marvellous....

Day 4: Celebrations

I do a happy dance every time I get a letter, a package or something I've ordered myself... surprises are usually the best.

I do a happy dance when I come across some great craft supplies at the craft store near me. Lately I came across a big box full of washi tape and I'm going to go and buy some for a present... its so exciting.

I do the happy dance on a holiday when I can make use of these things...

Its all worth it to have a celebration!

Project: Doodle A Day ~Superheros~

Day 3: Superhero

I was a little disappointed when I first saw this one as I had done superheros for my vintage theme one and if I'd known this one was coming up I would have just done one of them (I'm glad I didn't though). I didn't want to do the typical Batman, Spiderman, Hulk etc... as I didn't enjoy those cartoons as a child and still don't, also it will probably be a common choice for most people doodling this theme. So last night when I couldn't get to sleep, I thought about this one and I surprised myself as to how many there actually are.... Like last time I thought of Popeye but didn't want to draw him, Turtles but I didn't want to draw all 4 of them, The 3 Musketeers but again I didn't want to draw 3 of them, Pink Panther, Danger Mouse which I almost drew....and Inspector Gadget.... I had to draw him as that is another cartoon I loved as a child. I'm so glad I did as it was quite something drawing all those hands.

Project: Doodle A Day ~Distance and Instruments~

Day 1: Distance

I posted a postcard yesterday for this theme but I wasn't completely happy with it so decided to recreate it. The idea I had was completely different but when I sat down to doodle it I realised that idea would be best used for a different one of the themes so instead this one came to me.

 

Distance

The distance a letter travels.

The distance you can see in a telescope.

You use a watch to measure distance when one is running.

The distance we travel with books to read on our travels etc..

Vintage items have travelled all over, over the years.

The distance a feature has travelled with a bird.

The distance we travel looking for treasure.

Of course there is so much more....

Day 2: Instrument

I didn't want to do a common musical instrument because I knew most people would be doing that one. So I thought along the lines of useful instruments in a profession etc... I ended up doing a compass as then I can use this in some way on a card etc...

 

My ink pen was on the verge of running out after all my previous doodles, I have plenty of ink pens but they smudge and spread as they don't dry quick enough but also you can use felt tips long afterwards. I only had one pen that was good enough to draw with and I couldn't remember where I bought it so wanted to go to the local store last weekend thinking I got it from there but with the snow I had to wait until a work day. It wasn't so I stood for ages wondering what to do as none of the pens were good enough. I went away and came back and noticed these pens, you would think I was blind the first time. They have 3 different nib sizes and are of pigment ink so dry straight away, they are so good to draw with that I'm tempted to get another pack in case these finish and I can't find anything like it again.

 

I've been using watercolour crayons to colour with and they aren't the best with softer nibs which means they run out really quickly when colouring. I asked my sister today whatever happened to a big box she bought years ago and she told me that she gave it away! She kind of regretted it as she didn't think that the people she gave it to used them. In the end we went to the local store and we bought a proper box of crayons. I still need to add a bit more colour the distance one as I rushed it a little since my husband had come upstairs so I'll tidy it up a little tomorrow.

Project: Doodle A Day ~Distance~

Day 1: Distance

I hadn't planned on continuing with this doodle this month but I thought whilst I have holidays I might as well. I decided for this one to doodle the view from my bedroom window, the only thing is when I started drawing it I've got all the proportion so the actual view I could see didn't work out and this is maybe more when my next door neighbours can see. I guess part of the problem is the fact I should have done this drawing portrait.

 

Here's what I tried to copy minus the snow.

I've had another idea for this doodle theme so I think I'll attempt it tomorrow along with tomorrows doodle.

Project: Doodle A Day ~Joy~

Day 31: Joy

This one I wasted so much paper on as I thought of desserts... aren't they always a joy! Then I thought flowers and sunshine... then the word joy and in the end I gave up and just did a sun using water colour crayons.

Project: Doodle A Day ~Start~

Day 30: Start

Only one more day of this doodling month left, it really makes me realise how quickly time has gone by. Todays theme is start and weirdly I was only just able to make a start on this postcard as I spent 4 or so hours out with family visiting shops etc... also I spent a little time creating a birthday card for my niece so this only left a little time to 'start' my doodle. I'm not sure yet what I'll do in the rest of the space but I'm not sure whether to add colour or not as it looks quite nice like this... What do you think?

 

I'm now going to make a start on a new book and usually I do get quite peckish when reading so I may enjoy a few snacks also. Do you munch whilst you read sometimes?

Project: Doodle A Day ~Couple~

Day 29: Couple(s)

I love silhouettes of birds and when I saw this I decided I could do a fun silhouette with couples in various ways including a couple of eggs in a nest. The ideas are always there but I can't always draw them the way I want.

Project: Doodle A Day ~Present and Heart~

Day 27 & 28: Presents &  Hearts

I wasn't in the mood yesterday to doodle which was a good thing as I was able to combine the 2 days together to create this. I really love the heart shapes chocolate boxes you always see in cartoons so this was the prefect excuse to create one myself.

Day 26: Star

It was a friends birthday last week and even though I remembered I never got a card out... actually I never got around to making one. So I used yesterdays doodle for the card and then today I had to keep it simple for the envelope and choose what I've done above even though I'm not completely happy with it. Still I hope that my friend will be happy with it.

Project: Doodle A Day ~Building~

Day 25: Building

When I first saw the word building my mind thought 'lego' but I knew I would never get the shape of those right even though I have to admit I never attempted to draw it, maybe if I had I could have. I then couldn't bring myself to draw just one builiding as I've always wanted to do a street scene like the one above. I'd love to live somewhere with buildings all around me that look like these ones but unfortunately that isn't Bradford as we have stone buildings rather then beautiful colourful ones like this. I do know that there are places in England that do but that would be such an effort to move there especially considering I'd never get a job that pays as good as the one that I have currently. Still maybe one day things might take a complete turn and I could end up anywhere in the world... who knows!

 

I've made this one in to a greeting card for a friends birthday that was last week but I still haven't got around to sending something as a simple card but hopefully I'll get to post this tomorrow as it is super snowy and icy outside.

Project: Doodle A Day ~Open~

Day 24: Open

Doing projects like this really make you realise how quickly time is flying by, it has been a lot of fun and very thought provoking that I'm tempting to do it next month also as after all I'll have holiday for 2 weeks of it. I'll see though when the time comes.

 

Today I sent someone on make my day this Alice Postcard, its just such a nice postcard. I decided I wasn't going to spend 87p or £1.28 without getting my mail to the full 20g so needed an envelope to go with each one to add in a few extra. This one as you can see I decorated to the Alice theme by using Alice deco tape and then I copied part of the Alice on the postcard (the head is different). Then I needed to do something for the open theme for doodle a day, I thought of so many things as usual (an open sign on a door, opening a container, present etc...) but I decided in the end to keep it simple and decorate the back with drink me and a bottle to open! The pink looks so much nicer on the actual envelope then in the photo as its so bright.

Project: Doodle A Day ~Vintage~

Day 23: Vintage

I've no idea if these are vintage but since I feel quite ancient and its something that I watched as a child I guess they will be. When I originally sat down to doodle something for Vintage my mind could only think of cars, clothes and jewellery... oh! What to draw? Then out of the corner of my eye I saw Brave Heart winking at me and it came to me that I had drawn a girlie themed items for Brave so why should I not draw something male associated for this theme in cartoon form... HeMan, Popeye, Turtles.... after some thinking I decided to doodle Super Ted and Banana Man just because they were 2 of the cartoons I quite enjoyed as a child and often wonder what ever happened to them.

 

I also gave Brave Heart a much needed colouring yesterday night and I love how it turned out...
